Choose the right method for your skin type
Every skin reacts differently – so it pays to choose consciously: sugaring for sensitive skin, waxing for longer-lasting results, IPL for long-term smoothness or shaving for quick results. At the pharmacy or drugstore you can find products for sensitive skin so hair removal soothes rather than irritates.
Prepare your skin well
A warm shower opens the pores, softens hairs and reduces pain. At the same time you remove dirt and sweat that would otherwise promote irritation. Then reach for a mild cleansing gel to prepare the skin optimally for the hair removal method.
Try sugaring as a gentle alternative
The sugar paste removes hairs in the direction of growth and is considered particularly gentle. Many drugstores sell ready-to-use sugaring pastes that only need to be warmed slightly. Ideal for sensitive areas such as the bikini zone or underarms.
Use high-quality products when shaving
Use a sharp razor and a soothing shaving gel to prevent skin irritation. A gentle shaving foam from the pharmacy protects the skin barrier and reduces micro-injuries. Replace dull blades weekly – your skin will thank you.
Use depilatory creams correctly
Depilatory creams work painlessly and last up to two weeks. Choose products for sensitive or particularly delicate body areas. Test each cream first on a small area – and stick strictly to the exposure time. Afterwards a moisturizer soothes the skin reliably.
Use waxing for long-lasting smooth results
Hot wax or cold wax strips remove hairs at the root and leave skin smooth for weeks. Make sure the hairs are about 5 mm long. In the drugstore you can find gentle waxes with nourishing oils that put less strain on the skin after treatment.
Use IPL for long-term hair reduction
IPL devices weaken the hair at the root and provide lasting smoothness. For home use there are safe devices with skin tone sensors. Pharmacies also offer advice on skin-friendly IPL aftercare that minimises redness and strengthens the skin.
Use exfoliants to prevent ingrown hairs
Regular exfoliation keeps the skin supple and prevents ingrown hairs. Reach for mild exfoliants with lactic acid or enzymes – also ideal before waxing, epilation or sugaring. Avoid mechanical scrubs with coarse grains after hair removal.
Protect your skin after treatment
After hair removal the skin needs rest: no sun, no sauna, no sports for 24 hours. Soothing after-shave lotions, aloe vera gels or panthenol creams relieve redness and support skin healing.
Choose the right timing
Removing hair in the evening protects skin from additional stress. During the night it regenerates better, as there is no friction from clothing, no UV exposure and no heat disturbance. Redness is therefore usually gone by the next morning.
