Choose deliberately: deodorant or antiperspirant
An aluminium‑free deodorant neutralises odours but does not block sweat glands. If you perspire little and mainly want to smell fresh, this option is ideal. For heavy sweating – for example in high summer or during physical exertion – an antiperspirant may be more appropriate. Decide according to your personal needs.
Check the INCI list
Carefully check the ingredient list. Terms containing “aluminium” or notes such as “antiperspirant” and “48h‑Schutz” often indicate aluminium salts. A truly aluminium‑free product does not contain these additives. You can now find many clearly labelled alternatives in pharmacies and drugstores.
Choose antibacterial active ingredients
Since sweat glands are not constricted, aluminium‑free deodorants should specifically combat odour‑causing bacteria. Proven ingredients include alcohol, zinc, sodium bicarbonate or plant extracts. They provide reliable odour neutralisation – without impairing the skin’s natural function.
Avoid alcohol
If you have sensitive skin or tend to irritation, opt for alcohol‑free variants. Especially after shaving, gentle, non‑irritating formulations are important. Natural cosmetics with chamomile or calendula are a good choice here.
Give your skin time to adjust
When switching from a product containing aluminium, it can take up to two weeks for your skin to regulate. During this phase you may experience temporarily increased sweating or odour. Stay consistent – your body will adapt.
Apply the product correctly
Aluminium‑free deodorants work best on clean, dry skin. For optimal protection you can apply the product in the evening after cleansing so the active ingredients can absorb overnight. Reapply during the day if needed.
Choose the right format
Spray, roll‑on, stick or cream – each form has advantages. Creams are often particularly economical and nourishing, roll‑ons practical for on the go, sprays light and quick‑drying. Try what fits best into your daily routine.
Look for natural cosmetics seals
If you value sustainability and skin compatibility, look for certified natural cosmetics. Products without synthetic fragrances, silicones, petrochemical ingredients or synthetic musks are particularly recommended. Checking well‑known seals or recent test reports provides further guidance.
Avoid problematic fragrance ingredients
Aluminium‑free products are not automatically harmless. Substances such as cashmeran, galaxolid or lilial are under criticism. Therefore read the ingredient lists carefully – especially if you have allergies or react sensitively.
Support the effect with good hygiene
For a quick refresh, it’s advisable to first clean the underarms with water or a mild cleansing wipe. Then reapply the deodorant. An occasional underarm mask with clay or bentonite can help remove residues from previous products and clarify the skin.
