Coconut oil

10 practical tips for the versatile use of coconut oil

Coconut oil is winning over more and more people who value natural care and health. Whether as a moisturiser, for shiny hair or as a small everyday helper – the ways to use it are impressively numerous. But how can you best harness the power of this natural wonder for your personal beauty and health routine?
  • Skin care for sunburn and minor injuries

Apply coconut oil directly to sunburns, cuts or abrasions. The oil's antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties promote healing and can help minimise scarring.

  • Effective make-up removal

Apply a hazelnut-sized amount of coconut oil, warm it between your fingers and gently massage it into your face. This dissolves make-up, even waterproof, and can be removed with a damp cloth or cotton pad. Your skin will be nurtured and stay soft.

  • Natural lip care

Treat chapped lips with a thin layer of coconut oil. Alternatively, you can make a lip balm from coconut oil, beeswax and essential oils, for example vanilla or chamomile. This protects lips from drying out and leaves them supple.

  • Oil pulling for oral hygiene

Let a tablespoon of coconut oil melt in your mouth in the morning and swish for 15 to 20 minutes. This method removes bacteria and helps ensure fresh breath. Spit out the oil afterwards and rinse your mouth with water.

  • Intensive hair treatment with coconut oil

Wash your hair and towel-dry lightly. Then distribute about a teaspoon of coconut oil strand by strand from the ends to the roots. Cover the hair and leave the oil on for at least an hour or overnight. Then wash it out thoroughly with shampoo, repeating if necessary.

  • Natural protection against ticks

Rub a thin layer of coconut oil onto yourself and your loved ones before spending time outdoors. Thanks to its high lauric acid content, the oil naturally repels ticks. It is a gentle alternative to chemical preparations and especially useful in the warmer months.

  • Coconut oil to support weight loss

Take one tablespoon of coconut oil daily, either plain or dissolved in warm water or tea, to help curb appetite and stimulate metabolism. However, do not take more than two to three tablespoons per day, as the oil is high in saturated fats and calories.

  • Using coconut oil in cooking

Replace butter or other oils with coconut oil in your favourite recipes. Whether frying, baking or even in smoothies and desserts, this is an easy and tasty way to include the tropical oil in your daily diet.

  • Care for sensitive skin

Coconut oil moisturises and protects your skin without irritating it. It creates an environment in which bacteria and fungi do not thrive. That is why it can also be helpful for eczema or nappy rash.

  • Prevent and reduce dandruff

Massage a small amount of coconut oil into the scalp several times a week. This gently removes dandruff and soothes the skin. This method is also particularly suitable for babies with cradle cap.
