Choose a hair oil that matches your hair type
For a hair oil to deliver its full effect, it should be tailored precisely to your hair's structure. Rich oils such as argan, coconut or prickly pear are ideal for thick, dry or curly hair. For fine hair, lighter formulations — for example with rose or apricot kernel oil — are recommended so they do not weigh the hair down. Ask your pharmacy for advice on suitable oils to achieve the best care results.
Always use only a small amount
Hair oil is highly concentrated – often 1–2 drops are enough to nourish the whole head. Rub the oil between your palms first and gently work it into mid-lengths and ends. This prevents a greasy finish and protects delicate ends especially effectively.
Keep the roots free
The scalp naturally produces sebum and does not need extra oil. Never apply hair oil directly to the roots, as this can weigh the hair down and make it look greasy more quickly. This way your hair retains volume, lightness and natural movement.
Use hair oil as a targeted moisture treatment
Applied to damp hair, hair oil provides intensive moisture and helps smooth the cuticle. Your hair becomes more supple, easier to comb and optimally prepared for styling. Especially after showering, it is a valuable SOS treatment.
Apply hair oil only after styling
Hair oil does not act as heat protection, unless the product is explicitly formulated for that purpose. Do not use it before a hairdryer, straightener or curling iron. Only on dry, fully styled hair does hair oil reveal its shine effect and give the lengths a well-groomed, silky finish.
Use hair oil as a nourishing weekly treatment
A nourishing hair oil can work wonders overnight. Distribute a few drops through lengths and ends, loosely tie the hair and leave it to work overnight. Rinse out in the morning — for visibly regenerated, stronger hair.
Choose cold-pressed, pure natural oils
Untreated, cold-pressed oils contain particularly high levels of vitamins, antioxidants and fatty acids that strengthen hair intensively. Pharmacies offer high-quality options such as argan, jojoba, almond or olive oil, which are especially nourishing and well tolerated.
Opt for specialised formulas for specific hair issues
For dry hair, argan oil supports regeneration; for thinning or quickly greasing hair, jojoba oil helps regulate sebum production. Coconut oil works against split ends, and for dull hair lighter oils such as jojoba or carrot are suitable. This way you care for your hair in a targeted and effective manner.
Use hair oil as an anti-frizz aid
A tiny drop of hair oil can tame flyaways, reduce frizz and restore structure to the hair. Perfect for dry indoor heating, holiday humidity or as a quick styling aid on the go. A small bottle fits in any handbag.
Some oils – such as jojoba, almond, castor or peppermint oil – are excellent for caring for a dry, itchy or sensitive scalp. Gently massage a few drops in, leave briefly and then wash the hair as usual. The scalp is soothed and the hair roots are strengthened.
