Stevia provides calorie-free sweetness
Unlike sugar, which contains around 387 calories per 100 grams, stevia has zero calories. Due to its high sweetening power, only a small amount is enough to sweeten foods and drinks – ideal for people who want to reduce their calorie intake without giving up sweet taste.
Be careful with dosing
Because stevia is much sweeter than sugar, you should dose it carefully. Excessive amounts can cause a bitter aftertaste. Start with a small quantity and adjust the sweetness gradually to suit your preferences.
Using stevia correctly in baking
Stevia does not replace sugar 1:1 in baking, as it neither provides the same volume nor the caramelising properties. Replace 100 g of sugar with 60–70 g of stevia powder and add other ingredients to compensate for texture and volume.
Stevia is heat-stable
Stevia withstands temperatures up to 200 °C and can therefore be used without issue in cooking and baking. This makes it possible to prepare lower-calorie desserts without compromising enjoyment.
Stevia is particularly suitable for people with diabetes
Stevia has little effect on blood sugar and is therefore an attractive alternative for people with diabetes. Some studies even suggest that stevia may lower blood sugar. Nevertheless, you should also pay attention to the other ingredients in foods.
Check products containing stevia carefully
When buying stevia products, check whether they actually contain pure stevia or whether sugar or other sweeteners have been added. Sometimes, despite the label “with stevia”, calories may be present that reduce the health benefit.
Sweeten liquids with stevia
Use stevia tablets or liquid extracts to sweeten hot and cold drinks such as coffee, tea or smoothies easily and calorie-free. This way you can replace sugar with ease.
Enhance flavour with spices
Combine stevia in baked goods with spices such as cinnamon or vanilla. These deepen the aroma and often mask the slight aftertaste of stevia.
Store stevia correctly
Always keep stevia products in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. This preserves the sweetening power and keeps the product fresh.
In addition to its use in food, stevia is also used in cosmetic products. There it can provide gentle care effects and contribute to a natural beauty routine.
