10 important tips to optimally support your blood

Blood pulses invisibly through our body and keeps us alive: it supplies every cell with vital substances, protects us from pathogens and supports regeneration. It influences not only our internal functions but also our outward appearance and energy. So what can we do to keep our blood in balance?
  • Avoid substances that inhibit iron absorption

These include caffeine in coffee and tea, oxalic acid in leafy vegetables, and phytic acid in wholegrain products. It is therefore best to consume these foods separately from iron-rich meals.

  • Combine iron with vitamin C to improve absorption

Vitamin C–rich foods such as bell peppers, citrus fruits or broccoli significantly enhance iron absorption and help ensure your body is optimally supplied.

  • Ensure adequate fluid intake

Drink at least 1.5 litres of water or unsweetened herbal teas daily to improve the fluidity of your blood. Sugary drinks should be avoided as they can negatively affect your blood sugar and blood parameter levels.

  • Pay attention to an iron-rich diet

Iron is essential for blood formation. Animal sources of iron such as beef or poultry are especially well absorbed and also support the absorption of plant-based iron.

  • Include tomato extract in your diet

Certain components in tomato extract promote healthy blood flow by supporting platelet aggregation without impairing coagulation. This is ideal in situations of stress, diabetes or an increased risk of thrombosis.

  • Prefer complex carbohydrates

Wholegrain products, legumes and vegetables allow your blood sugar to rise steadily and prevent dangerous spikes that can negatively affect your blood markers.

  • Use vitamin K for healthy blood clotting

It is important for the production of clotting factors in the liver and thus contributes to intact blood coagulation. Green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale are particularly rich in vitamin K.

  • Choose healthy fat sources

Unsaturated fatty acids from nuts, avocados and fatty fish support healthy blood lipid levels. Reduce saturated animal fats to ease the burden on heart and vessels.

  • Exercise regularly

Regular physical activity improves circulation, supports metabolism and has a positive effect on blood parameters. Even moderate activity such as walking helps.

  • Check your blood values regularly

Regular check-ups allow you to detect possible changes early and take targeted action — whether through diet, lifestyle changes or medical support.

  • Blood is a liquid organ made up of plasma and cells. While the plasma transports nutrients, hormones and waste products, the cells deliver oxygen, strengthen the immune system and stop bleeding.
  • Red blood cells are small, flexible discs that, thanks to their iron-containing protein haemoglobin, distribute oxygen throughout the body. They live for about 120 days and adapt to narrow vessels.
  • Blood gets its red colour from haemoglobin. Depending on circulation, the tone of the skin also changes, for example in cold or during exertion.
  • Not all animals have red blood: some marine creatures have blue blood, insects often have yellow blood and some species even have green or purple blood. This is an impressive spectrum of colours in nature.
